treats of the past shrove tuesday

This is such a delicious photo of some really tasty treats. Shrove Tuesday (or Pancake Day) has different traditions around the world, and in the Northern European region it includes these buns filled with fresh whipped cream and either almond paste or strawberry jam.

And part of the tradition at least in Finland is to go sleighing, and this is not just for kids but also university students have special sleighing events as the midwinter normally includes having tons of snow everywhere. So happy belated Shrove Tuesday – we spent ours in the mountains, and since I wasn’t able to bake there my recipe for “replacement” buns was to use donut holes, maple syrup and whipped cream made out of rice (son’s choice!). It was different, but a very tasty and fun recipe also!
