lotus festival time in old summer palace

For a day I almost felt like turning into a nature photographer – the beauty was all around us and it was so hard to resist. This is time for Lotus flower to bloom and thus the Lotus festival – and hundreds of enthusiasts had gathered in the Old Summer Palace (Yuan Ming Yuan, or literally the Gardens of Perfect Brightness – located in the Haidian District, within the city of Beijing) area with the so-professional looking equipment.

Since I now have a new camera (which I still can only use on automatic…) I took a couple of little snaps too. We spent around five hours (these kids certainly have developed some stamina) walking around, but only managed to see a little fraction of this gorgeous place (more pictured to follow soon). Enjoy the beautiful Lotus and dew drops!

Lotus time

Lotus everywhere – so romantic peeking under the weeping willows
Lotus time
Pink Lotus (guess I didn’t pick the prettiest one as kids were rushing, but still…)

Pink and white lotus
White and giant lotus

After the rain...
After the rain…
Rain drops
Sweet rain drops

My star rating for Old Summer Palace (Yuan Ming Yuan): Excellent

“We loved this place, so beautiful and relaxing, and despite the occasional crowds of photographers it was relatively empty. Great for kids to run around too. Read more on Yuan Ming Yuan on my other blog post here.”
