the razor – an ultramodern masterpiece in california

There is the modern house and then there is the ultra-modern one. This magnificent house in La Jolla California called The Razor ( I can see why the name…) certainly falls into the latter category. It was designed by Wallace E Cunningham, one of the top 100 designers by Architectural Digest.

Glass, concrete, design furniture and sea views summarises this house pretty well. Despite being 11000 sq ft (1020 m2) this house only has four bedrooms and the emphasis has been placed to vast open spaces. Beautiful forms, unrestricted views with full glass windows (but is that really needed in the bathroom?) certainly make this house unique.

I love the Dedon chairs outside and the little round-shaped fireplace area with its round rug, Barcelona chairs and a round coffee table is pretty clever too. Now I understand that this house is a minimalist statement, but taking into account the huge size, it does feel a bit impersonal. Maybe some objet d’art or paintings would help to overcome that feeling?
