she sells seashells by the seashore – or brings them home for craft time

seashell art

My kids love to pick up seashell on the beach like most of the kids do. The bag of shells keeps growing at home so we did some crafting today to keep the seaside memories fresh in mind and to put them on display.

At first the plan was to use photo frames, but the ones I had picked from Target dollar-section were a bit slippery on the surface (and thus a lot of work), so we used these ready-cut, self-adhesive hearts (they were so good that I am planning to use them for Christmas and Valentine’s Day crafts too). I also discarded the second thought – hanging the hearts from ribbons, as the twins would very likely have pulled out all the shells this way.

Miss Anaïs was a great help as always and my role was left to the end – help to glue the hearts to the paper, use the stickers to write the names, and put the finished art in the frames. I managed to loosen a few shells in the process and used spray adhesive to put them back (easy, but I got really sticky fingers – I wonder if Martha Stewart uses gloves or something?). The end result was pretty cute and will likely go the upstairs hallway where we can pass them very often.
