photo tour of ljubljana, slovenia

Ljubljana heartI’ve just been to the gorgeous capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, for the first time and loved every moment of it. Now January might not be the best time to visit as it’s rather frosty and obviously the famous parks and nature is rather bare, but the town still looks gorgeous.

What’s so special about Ljubljana is that the city centre has been designated a pedestrian zone and for those needing assistance there are a few free electric vehicles going around – therefore it’s calmer, safer and more quiet in the city centre (although the sounds of cars is compensated by many street artist, which I personally loved listening to). For someone who likes to take photos it also means better opportunities without cars in front of your perfect object all the time!

Ljubljana is a relatively small capital with slightly under 300 000 people, and Slovenia as a country is also rather small, which means that it’s easy to venture outside the town also. First famous stop just 30 minutes away is the famous Lake Bled and in another 30 minutes or so you can be hiking the snow-capped Alps already!

The allure and the focal point of Ljubljana is the river that cuts through the city: quaint shops, cafes and restaurants alongside the river, the numerous bridges crossing it, and boat rides on it. The riverside is beautiful and calming and I kept going back to river for more inspiration. Slovenia is one of the upcoming destinations in 2015 and I’m not surprised: it’s clean, beautiful, safe, moderately prices with great food and wine, not to forget lovely boutique hotels and more historic castle and palace hotels such as Antiq Palace where I stayed (review coming soon on Skimbaco Lifestyle so stay tuned).

So, here are my first impressions via Instagram on Ljubljana and Lake Bled – full of colour and beauty despite mostly grey winter weather:
