local eats: unforgettable cream tea in the chiddingstone castle

I know that Chiddingstone Castle is no Astoria when it comes to cream tea, but this certainly was the best of my life despite the kids bickering a bit and all that. The sun was shining, we had just toured the exquisite little castle of Chiddingstone (next to Sevenoaks) and its pretty grounds, and soft music was playing in this courtyard. The waitresses were dressed the old-fashioned way and the mood was just right.

The tea was so delicious, the clotted cream just perfect – and we ended up having an extra serving of scones for the kids too.  A lovely end for the day’s tour of two castles in the countryside of Kent (England). Oh that sweet silence in the car when we drove back to our friends house.
