mount diablo rock climbing

New year, new destinations! The MLK day delight, albeit a cold one, was for us Mount Diablo state park. This place is especially great for kids as the sandstone rocks and little cave-like holes in Rock city are the perfect climbing area and so much fun.

From the (chilly – 36F/2c) top one can see San Francisco and the Golden Gate (nearly 30 miles away) on a sunny day as the SF valley is very flat except for Mt Diablo. Considering the foggy SF weather we were pretty lucky to have a clear, sunny day!

The park is pretty big and offers tons of trails, deep spotting and other fun, but the terrain in either sloping sharply up or down all the time. We hike a couple of miles on the Fossil ridge trail as we wanted to see fossils, but didn’t manage to find any before turning back. nevertheless, a great day and a very much recommended destination to visit!

I did it myself – climbed up to a little “cave”

This is how we go up…

different explorer...

Unexpected view – he made it to the other side. Very skillful!
