memory lane – spring in seaside cottage
The first trees are blooming here in California. That is a sort of novelty for me as it is only mid-February. The English spring would bloom from March, and in Finland from late April onwards.
Our little street in bloom
The arrival of the spring also jogged a memory of a seaside cottage my parents used to rent in Finland. It was painted in traditional red and so were the outbuildings. Old and rustic one could say. Interiors also leaned towards the typical shades of white -theme. Technically it was on the seaside, but on the hay-growing bay where it was fine to fish, but it was best to swim 100m/yards away in the actual sandy beach.
The sun would heat the sides of the outbuildings and bring out the first flowers of the spring as well as mushrooms a bit earlier than elsewhere. All you could hear was cuckoo or other birds and sometimes the bigger fish jumping in the water. So different from the constant noise experienced in the city. Good memories. They will always transform the mind to tranquility!
