hidden gem – luxury hotel great fosters near london on #igtravelthursday

Great Fosters

Welcome to a lovely country manor turned into a romantic hotel with beautiful gardens and splendid restaurants. Step into a time vacuum, slow down and enjoy a long lunch in a small, cozy room of just 6 tables offering pretty views outside and a giant fireplace with milld smoky scents lingering around.

That is exactly what we’ve just done visited this lovely haven and enjoyed an amazing meal: the six-course lunch-time taster menu with champagne – a romantic date in the middle of the week. This restaurants appears to have full marks on pretty much all of their reviews I’ve seen and I am not a bit surprised about that: with impeccable service, aesthetically laid courses that taste amazing – a mix of sweet and tangy, or other (at least for me) unusual combinations which work well together. (I should probably also mention that the chef they hired late 2013 has earned Michelin stars for his previous restaurants, so one might expect to see one for The Tudor Room in the future also…).

Food

So from first course of potato and leek soup with quail eggs to the fresh peppermint tea with petit fours it was like an explosive firework for the taste palates, our favourite course being the fish today. This is an experience I’d definitely recommend with time, and one should not miss the gardens afterwards!

What is this Shangri-La in the countryside, yes so close to the City of London? It’s the quintessentially English luxury country hotel Great Fosters and their The Tudor Room -restaurant. The magnificent house was built in 1550 as a royal hunting lodge, so it has a lot of historic value – and it’s still surrounded by 50 acres of beautiful gardens and parkland.

So if you are planning to stay overnight in the Heathrow area this is the perfect place, but the location is also the only downfall of the place: close proximity to the highway means noise outside (but it’s peaceful inside) and somewhat from the airport also, although I didn’t really hear planes when strolling in the gardens today.
