This #IGTravelThursday is all about dreaming and planning that next lovely escape. All it takes is a one enticing photo – and one falls in love with a place, starts looking for travel ideas, flight options. That’s the power of images on Internet – and where else does one find so easily pretty stuff than on Instagram… And that’s how I found Sri Lanka.
I recall how years ago my cousin went on a student exchange programme to Sri Lanka and just couldn’t stop telling how beautiful it was. Then I saw the images and I was sold too: warm climate and sea, beautiful beaches, old culture, good food, not overly crowded by tourists or very expensive. Not that many cons though, other than being quite so far away from continents other than Asia, oh and the roads being little better than potato fields…
That said: hello statigr.am and images of Sri Lanka 0 and well Maldives too, but the latter’s is just one amazing white sand beach after another (not that I don’t like them, of course I do!), whereas Sri Lanka actually has several Unesco World Heritage sites and amazing things to see and experience! So here are few nice accounts on Sri Lanka that I found and wanted to share.
@srilanka_travel: a little bit of everything, white sand beaches, culture and especially those elephants. Our kids so want to visit the Pinnawala Elephant sanctuary!
@torstenswartz – he really takes you on a world tour, but has plenty on Sri Lanka too. Those ellies again… My daughters would like to ride them, but I am a bit scared of that idea..
@santsmart – sightseeing Sri Lanka, such as this Dagoba. Beautiful! This just might beat the white Dagoba in Beihai park in Beijing…
@hasphotodesigns – Love this captured moment of worship in Dambulla world heritage site! I hope we’ll get to see more than just the sights in Sri Lanka; experience some of the culture too
@iamsrilanka – the ultimate island guide with beaches, rainforest, sights – you name it!
@smartwrite – now I hope to capture at least one amazing sunset like this on the beach…dream on!
Now I’d love to hear if Instagram has inspired you to travel to a destination that might not have been that high on your list to start with?
