fun kids party name tags and cards

This weekend we just had the most fun (and probably the longest) birthday party ever, where most of the parents chose to participate in the fun too – doing ice skating. As the venue had multiple parties at the same time we crafted these fun name tags, which also became keepsakes of the party.

We used red leis as starting point, then cut a hole in a foam star (butterflies for the three birthday girls, as this was a combined party for three classmates), and then we glued a picture of the birthday girls to the foam figure. One could also write the guests names in the shapes if the party has a lot of kids who do not know each other.

Since we were already in crafting mood, miss A. made birthday cards using these same foam figures (from Michaels), coloured glitter glue and little foam heart stickers. She also did the shopping of the birthday presents – within the given budget and guidelines of really thinking what her friends would like to receive. A great experience for all – kids get to learn about the value of money and put some thought into the process of giving, rather than just mom going and getting everything ready for them. This time we mostly skipped the party bag, and each child got an ice-skating themed book as a thank you present.
