french chateau = love for life
I am starting to think that my ideal house would be interconnecting a french chateau and modern glass cube and concrete house on a warm seaside cliff location with some vineyards and organic gardens to tend for and topiary to clip. Sounds like an impossible combination!
Bu this morning It’s all about sweet smell of lavender, pies in the oven and sunshine for I have seen images of pretty little French castles for sale (and most of them are even livable). All pretty much with the price of an old two-bed condo in the Bay area.
18th Century Chateau for sale in Vesoul, Franche Comté. This little castle has 6500sq ft/600m2 livable space and 7 acres/2.8 hectares land around it. These smaller castles and estates can be found on specialist site Moulin.
What about a 17th Century Chateau Normandy in Pays de La Loire. Comes even with its’ own moat. Same size as the previous castle, which includes 12 bedrooms. And this one is only 50km/31 miles from the coast.
If you love the idea of owning a castle, but want something easier to maintain and not too big, this cute castle in Burgundy, Yonne is the one for you. With 320m2/ 3450sq ft and smaller garden would be ideal place for your needs.
If you were after something more grand, then specialist Patrice Besse is probably your first contact. Here’s something more grand up north in the Normandy region with 3,000 m² /32,490 sq ft of living space is decorated with numerous period features, 30 bedrooms and suites all with private bathrooms have been converted for guest use. Sounds like a boutique hotel to me.
Here’s another Besse jewel – a Neo-renaissance style castle in typical Normandy countryside and with over 100 acres/40 hectares of land. And it comes with an interesting piece of history too: According to legend, during the summer of 275, St George, leading an army of 6,000 thirsty men, is said to have struck the ground with his sword, making water gush out from the source that feeds this stream which continues to separate the estate from the neighbouring village.
Another true historical castle from Besse- 15th, 16th & 17th listed castle in a 71 ha /175.4 acre estate in the Upper Anjou region. It has a total of more than 1,300 m²/14,000 sq ft of living space split between the main building and the wing.
These couple of sites will keep you entertained for hours with the amazing interior and exterior images, and history that comes with each castle.
