finding christmas spirit near and far
Happy #IGTravelThursday again. I am about to take off to Iceland and am looking forward to visiting the local Christmas market, (hopefully) some snow for kids to enjoy and spotting northern lights – we are excited to look for the Icelandic Christmas spirit, but before heading there it’s time to savour the British winter spirit!
December is such a busy time – not in terms of travel but all the parties and events going on. I thought it was time to check where I’ve gotten on the Christmas Bucket list I shared a few weeks back… and I would love to hear how all of you around the world have been finding your Christmas spirit!
My mantra of the month is focus on the good things – I am trying to de-stress and embrace the fun that Christmas is for children, and I think it’s been working pretty well. When it comes to my bucket list, I seem to be half-way down on it already: I’ve had a lovely afternoon champagne tea high up in the sky, enjoyed London Christmas decor and lights, although daytime doesn’t fully count.
We’ve also visited one new sunday lunch place – it was a bistro rather than a pub, but I’ll count it in anyway – and also had a fun-filled night out in a nice pub-club combo place (and I had my first Christmas dinner already there as a warm-up for the big night!).
London just comes alive at Christmas – beautiful window dressings, decor and lights everywhere. Little stalls selling warm cider, ice rinks, The Winter Wonderland and markets with cute German-style stalls. One visit just is not enough, so we’ll be back for me while we come for the Snowman in the theatre.
If you’ve checked my IG feed @houseofanais lately it’s easy to tell that we are feeling Christmassy here in England – and have been to two Christingles, christmas bazaars, enjoyed plenty of mulled wine and mince pies already, seen one nativity and christmas plays, baked the first Christmas cake…even been to a fabulous fairy photo shoots – the list goes on and on…
Tomorrow we’ll get to add some Christmas caroling in another church to the mix and are planning to make some peppermint brownies. What a fun season this Christmas is and there is still more to come with theatre, skating, christmas markets, and castle trails before the year end – maybe even a trip to the famous Bath Christmas market!
