eichler homes – well worth loving

For a while I have been wondering what the SF Bay Area specialty houses, the Eichler homes, look like. And I have finally seen two and they are fantastic! The exterior is often somewhat modest and the houses are always built on one level, but the interiors are airy, open and spacious – and did I forget to mention that at least these houses were pretty green with radiant heating, solar panels and so on. These houses also often have pretty, more unusual features such as interior courtyards too (safe place for kid to play at least!).

And here’s a lovely winner of the houses I visited over the weekend – and I think the pictures don’t do justice in this case! You walk into the house and see this palm tree growing, hear the water flowing, see the enormous fireplace burning and through the Japanese-styled French doors one can see a lush garden (for the area at least!) with a pretty pool area. There was a firepit filled with the kind of rounded-edged glass one can find on the beach, a little water pond and an actual creek running in the backyard. I felt it was love at first sight!
