drawing inspiration using instagram travel destinations on #igtravelthursday

I’ve been on Instagram now nearly 10 months, and I use Instagram a lot for finding inspiration for new places to visit, and thereafter for planning the details of our travel on where to go, to stay and so on.

Once I spot a lovely photo I use hashtags to search for more “real” photos from fellow travellers and that gave me an idea to group my latest travels into Instagram stories which I could share here: and that is how my top ten destinations for 2013 (and a bit of 2014 too with Israel added to the mix) was formed – I hope you enjoy the sights, foods, hotels and other cool things I have captured while travelling.

Maalu Maalu hotel in Sri Lanka
My favourite hotel in Sri Lanka of the eight different hotels we stayed in – Maalu Maalu resort on the east coast – definitely recommended!

As I wasn’t on Instagram when I did some of the journeys I just might do a throw-back theme week in March about Philippines as that is certainly a very beautiful country – the people there are always very  welcoming, but especially now tourism is needed as they are trying to recover from the storm damage caused late last year.

So, let me introduce my 2013 top ten collections via SnapWidget (or browse all @houseofanais photos directly on Instagram from here):

  1. Sri Lanka
  2. Iceland
  3. China – around Beijing
  4. Israel
  5. Spain – Asturias
  6. France – Burgundy & Paris
  7. Scotland
  8. Wales
  9. Spain – coast of Valencia
  10. And finally an area where we spent the most days last year -around our own beautiful England, concentrating here our South-East region

I would also love to hear what inspires on Instagram – and as I am always looking for new (mainly family-friendly) destinations I would like to see your destination collections or just get destination recommendations!

1. Sri Lanka – touring the southern and central parts of the country and finishing it off on the pristine beach on east coast

2. Iceland – few tours to see the most famous sights while staying in the capital Reykjavik

3. China – Around BeiJing: monasteries, tombs, palaces and hiking within three-hour drive from the capital BeiJing

4. Israel – day trips around the country while staying in Tel Aviv and enjoying plenty of the delicious local food

5. Northern Spain, Asturias – such a green and lush place which is very different from the touristic south

6. France, Burgundy & Paris – the city of love never fails to inspire and combined with a river cruise, wine tasting and little trips around Burgundy this was a journey to remember

7. Scotland – family road trip to the rugged highlands, search of Nessie and stays in castles. So so lovely!

8. Wales – the other end of the Great Britain. More old castles, stay in a lovely resort, Roman gold mines and beautiful nature

9. Southern Spain, Coast of Valencia – our annual beach retreat to a more hidden part of the coast with guaranteed sunshine and good beach life

10. England, Around SouthEast – whenever the weather allows and we have a few hours or a day, or two, to spare we are off to explore and enjoy the history and nature around us
