destination england – venturing outside london

To discover the quaint English character one just has to venture outside London. Go to north, south, east, or west – or each direction in turn and there is beauty everywhere with manor house hotels, villages with majestic churches and cozy pubs, towns with picturesque cobblestone streets, gastro pubs and lovely stores. And hundreds, or in some cases, thousands of years of history!

Over the Christmas holidays we did a good amount of travel around England while taking miss A. to tennis tournaments. As most of the destinations were new for me I didn’t just want to drive a few hours, watch my little girl play a few more hours and then trek back – and therefore decided that we’d stay overnight and do some local sightseeing.

The December weather was cold and rather rainy, and as the night fell early it actually reduced greatly the window of capturing lovely and interesting photos (we were still able to enjoy sightseeing after dark in these towns greatly). That said, I’d like to present you some snaps of the real Boston, in Lincolnshire (north of London), Bath in Somerset by the Welsh border and the nearby Bristol – and some astonishing grey skies along with them!
