colour my sofa
I have a friend who has recently redone her house and renewed most of the decor. She ordered an amazing custom-made sectional sofa from an artisan in Greece, and used a number of different colourful fabrics from Designers Guild to cover it. And plenty of patterned fabric buttons. Pretty bold move, but it transforms the whole room and fills it with colour and imagination. And since the piece is modular, you can easily reconfigure it – a couple of pieces by the fireplace in the evening, reading corner by the window in the afternoon… I am hoping that she will let me photograph her house when I visit England the next time.
The reason why i thought of her sofa was the Roche Bobois ad in the latest Architectural Digest. I have seen before their colourful Missoni Rythme sofa and the Jean Paul Gaultier black and white Mah Jong sofa. Now they have the Mah Jong model covered with Missoni fabrics. And it is almost like my friend’s piece. So eclectic and mesmerising. Seeing all those colours together always puts me in a good mood!
