what’s trending in decor in 2012-2013
I am always interested in hearing what the trendsetters and forecasters are saying, but lately the messages seem to be so different – guess it means we can pick the ones we like the most and that there will plenty to choose from in the stores!
I love houses where the border between the interior and exterior has been blurred, and I am very excited to hear that one of the expected 2012 trends is the Landscaping Interiors – bringing in the water and rock features and all shades of green and reds from the rainforest. I am so loving this prediction from Li Edelkoort of the Trend Union (and looking forward to her 2013 trend books that she is discussing in Bliss later on this month).
I just had to add this delicious photo I love – I have seen few houses where decorative pebble areas have been added under the stairs to bring the zen and nature into the house. I wonder if these gorgeous glass stairs are slippery… (image Crystal Skull)
Heimtextil‘s 2012-13 four main trends have some colour and lot of harmony. The firsts called Colour Riot is exactly what the name indicates. Bold colours, shining surfaces and digital patterns. Then there is the Dark Lux – deep black and shimmering metals – just think of the new house Taylor Swift just bought (I love the idea of black, but I also think that the rooms need to be rather big or it will not look that good).
The third trend for Heimtextil is Craft Industry – warm tones, irregular patterns and extraordinary pieces of crafting such as patchworks. And their last forecast just sounds very appealing also: the Split Clarity – thing of base essentials and that less is more. Yhis trend is all about green living, sustainability and natural colours. Also the versatile textures and materials play here key roles. Sounds really great!

Michelle Lamb from the TrendCurve presents the following predictions for 2012-13 – there is a little from the above predictions. First there are bright colours and especially orange and coral. Then there are bird themes and multi-coloured stripes (I am thinking Missoni for some reason) and Far East themed toiles and urban cityscapes with metal, brick and distressed leather (the latter makes me think some of the new Restoration Hardware pieces).

AB Home Interiors have some very defined trends for 2012 such as horses, colourful vintage throws, wallpapers, pinks and collections. Pink and collections sounds good, especially the latter as it covers pretty much anything under the sun!

All in all so many different trends, which is great, as many people have the style of their own regardless of the trends – and this means that we all should be still able to find cool things we like in the stores – it just might be that you need to discover some new ones to find exactly what you are looking for!
