the three neighbours

What amazes me sometimes is the lack of building control in the sense that the houses on a particular street can be very different from another. In this area especially one can see how old houses are being demolished and turned into new ones – normally what happens is that a one-story bungalow or cottage becomes into two two-storey houses with really tiny gardens.

I have been watching this modern house being built in Los Altos (CA), and whereas I love modern houses this one really seems to be so off the common theme in the area – which is mock-haciendas and more English-style terraced houses. So I took these fun pictures of “the thtee neighbours” – the new modern house, it’s original – probably 60s one-story house and the little apartment complex which to me strikes as Addams family meets the half-dilapidated English house (but in a romantic way). And opposite to these peculiar neighbours are some nice Spanish-inspired houses.

I wonder how everyone else’s neighbourhoods look like – when I was living in Georgia all the houses were very similar is style with columns at front, large porches and of course, nice-sized gardens.
