the second coming of christmas
We will not start taking down our Christmas decorations until this weekend simply because that season is not yet over. Based on the Spanish traditions we are waiting for the three wise men, or kings to arrive. These three kings have been slowly approaching towards baby Jesus and I can report that they have almost reached the destination in our little corner display – meaning that it is just one night to go for the big day.
Tonight we’ll have to place our shoes in front of the fireplace and leave a glass of milk for those thirsty wise men when they arrive. Then in the morning we (or rather the kids) shall find some presents piled under shoes (and they don’t even need to be wrapped saving me effort and thus providing a greener “packaging” too)!
It’s been a great shopping at the sales and Target’s $1 bins (what would I do without those bins – they have all the book classics – Miss A. is reading Christmas present Jekyll and Hyde at the moment – and little books for the twins on offer). I think I am pretty lucky for our kids never really ask for any specific presents, so it is rather easy buying process really, and even new sheets, socks and underwear are greeted with cries of joy.
So all I need to do today is find a Roscon de Reyes (king’s ring) – the traditional cake, which has a surprise or two baked in for the lucky one. Last year I found the Rosca in a Mexican bakery and it had a baby Jesus inside. My guess is that we’ll find him again this year in our cake…

I’ll be hunting the Rosca de Reyes today…
