the dilemma of placing a “newcomer”

Our pre-historic TV has finally cancelled its contract with us and gone black. It did serve us well and when it got in 2004 it certainly seemed huge in size (28″) and had all the mod-cons of its time. We (or rather the kids) finally got tired of staring the black screen and just listening the DVDs (we don’t have an actual TV subscription so the screen is for watching DVDs and playing the Wii).

This new “baby” is a grand 42″ and so lightweight and flat that I am afraid someone will knock it down immediately. Anyway, back to the dilemma now. The old TV was placed on the built-in shelf next to the fireplace, but the new one doesn’t fit there. Therefore the playroom is out of question and the TV has to enter the sacred living room. Those who have been reading my early blog posts know that this house still doesn’t have much furniture – so I don’t quite want to sacrifice the only place I have to place my decorative items on (candles, vases, etc) – but I guess I have no choice.

I guess the TV provided a good opportunity for a cleanup, as almost everything had to change places in the room and this is outcome. If we ever manage to find a sofa, we’ll move the (landlord’s) piano too to make some space. Sadly I must say that the TV did not enhance the room, and considering how empty it still is one would think that any addition would be a good one.. I just think that very rarely can a TV and any sort of sound system look good, and therefore I would prefer to have a built-in sound system and a hidden TV if this was my house…
