the amazing shen yun

I went with little miss Anaïs today to the Shen Yun, the performing arts spectacular of classic Chinese dance – and I think it was absolutely breath-taking!

There was the story of five thousand years of cultural heritage from different parts of country, including modern-day pieces of repression when it comes to freedom of expression. The stars of the show originate from China, but as the group is US-based they are able to have more controversial messages in their storylines.

Classical Chinese dance includes movements from Kung Fu and sort of acrobatics many other modern-day shows now have. That combined with ballet-like movements in amazing colourful costumes, visually interactive backgrounds and a large orchestra that mixes eastern and western instruments creates an unique mix. Add some classical singing performances and the show is ready.

As the Shen Yun shows change every year, my guess is that there will be few members of this family in the audience next year also.
