romance in sunnyvale
Sunnyvale is an interesting city as quite a few people live there (140k), but there is no proper city centre. There has been construction work on going for a few years to redo the existing centre, but currently the area provides a new Target store, plenty of parking, some office buildings and many empty lots awaiting their transformation.
The old historic main street next to the new development, the Murphy Street, has a lovely bookstore for both old and new books and few restaurants, but unfortunately nothing for interior-seeking shopper. As the area was traditionally rather Irish, the centre still has some Irish pubs and restaurants.
For Valentine’s Day I decided to try create my romanticised take on Sunnyvale centre and see what the best buildings were to create that old romantic feel. And I think there were few. The atmosphere in the bookshop fitted the theme so well also! Otherwise I would say that the best architecture in Sunnyvale comes from office buildings and parks, and that will be a project for another day.
