project playroom in a budget
There is the reality and the future dream house. In reality with three kids there seems to be a lot of toys everywhere. I try to contain them all in the playroom but it is lacking storage space!
I need to come up with a temporary solution for the next few years until they grow up and no longer need all these toys as now we are cars, crayons and wooden pizza slices all the time. And the lovely train table has become the new hotspot for collecting all things on the floor. Timeline urgent – so I have started my research.
Ideally I am thinking of white or other light-toned furniture as it is easy to modify when kids grow and rooms change.
And here is the starting point – medium-sized play area with plenty of natural light during the day and lots of stuff of all sorts. And like any other kids, these ones love arts, play dough and crafting.
Some ideas for bookshelfs and different kinds of storage solutions:
This Skandia Playroom shelving looks nice, but currently any item on an open shelf will end on up on the floor. So I am thinking that storage bins are needed. I also like to have a a lot of bright colours for little ones like for their inspiration like in this Animal-print bench cum storage space. Would there be lots of tears and little fingers being trapped or constant banging of the lid.
These Clutterfreekids bin storage system and art island ideas are nice. Can I find them also in white or the bins in bright colours?
Clutterfreekids also have nice book storage units – that would be great as we have plenty of books. This third option, the beige bookshelf from Target would be a great frame for a DIY project to brighen it up a bit.
These storage units with baskets are really nice – RiverRidge Kids Bookcase and 3×3 basic unit with baskets or Circo storage system – comes also in other colours besides blue. I even managed to find some cute and bright animal print baskets.
I am still thinking though that these systems might be too small, and have now spotted the “mega storage” system from Ikea – the Expedit series. 6x6ft (or 185cm squared) and it fits 25 storage boxes and bins. I think I will head to investigate this one!
