learning to make authentic rye bread

If you want to learn new skills the easiest (and also very fun) way to do it is to ask your friends. Lately I have gotten cooking lessons from on friend who likes to throw impromptu dinner parties for 15 people, and yesterday I learned how to make Finnish rye bread – and ever got the ingredients to go to get started at home.

We had about 10 people baking bread and white we were waiting the dough to raise we enjoyed a great coffee break with a table full of cakes and pies. How great is that – I got to know new people, enjoyed this amazing dessert table (we all pitched in), got my own bread to go, and hopefully I now can make my own bread too!

Rye bread ready for oven

Here are my little bitesize breads ready to go to the oven. The great thing about little breads is that they only take about 10 minutes to get ready, whereas if you make a full loaf the baking time is up to an hour.

And the steaming hot finished breads ready for eating (yes I know, they don’t look much different after baking as rye flour is so dark to start with)
