enchanting filoli pt.1
As there was a break in the rain today we headed to the enchanted estate of Filoli, located in Woodside near San Francisco. This properly has been part of The National Trust For Historic Preservation since mid 70s. Filoli was built by Mr. and Mrs. William Bowers Bourn II after the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco and is last of the estate of the America’s Gilded Age.
The second owner, Mrs. William P. Roth donated the estate and some of the furnishing to the National Trust and it is run with the help of more than 1000 volunteers between February and October.
Both the house and the gardens (14 acres of formal gardens) are magnificent, even in February, when there are mainly daffodils, tulips and few other flowers and trees blooming.
