curious friday stuff…

I spotted this on day in the very residential street of Los Altos (CA). It is a horse-head pole sticking from the hedge on the side of the street and it got me wondering. What is the purpose of it – is it really old and was used years and years ago to tie horses in place…? I would love to hear your ideas on this one!
