a visit to posh weybridge

Weybridge in Surrey – a county outside London seems to be the new hot destination for celebrities and Russian billionaires. There you find one of the few gated communities in UK where prices range from £3 m ($5M) for a 3-bed house to £13 m ($21.3 M) for a sizeable mansion at the moment. The estate was created in the 60s and many Beatles lived there, as well as Tom Jones, and currently you can also find wealthy bankers and the F1 driver Jenson Button residing in Weybridge.

So what’s on offer in Weybridge at the moment?  Many lovely looking houses as well as a contemporary mews development by Consero Homes. But I am thinking that if you want to live in the countryside, why not have your own house and proper garden if you can afford it…?

The Mews in Weybridge – looks so much like London!

The Mews

(for those unfamiliar with Mews houses- the Wikipedia describes them as: Mews is a primarily British term formerly describing a row of stables, usually with carriage houses below and living quarters above, built around a paved yard or court, or along a street, behind large city houses, such as those of London, during the 17th and 18th centuries. The word may also refer to the lane, alley or back street onto which such stables open. It is sometimes applied to rows or groups of garages or, more broadly, to a narrow passage or a confined place. Today most mews stables have been converted into dwellings, some greatly modernised and considered highly desirable residences.)

Then some of the houses on the market in Weybridge – stylewise they are a mix of traditional English from Regency and Queen Anne (my favourite) to farmhouse and even a faux French castle has been thrown in the mix.
