23.2 house – rural modernism

Canadian Omer Arbel has designed this rural house called 23.2, which aims to create ambiguity between the indoor and outdoor spaces, and has two “outdoor rooms” built in.

The triangular geometry of the house is based on the variable lengths of the “sacred” reclaimed Douglas Fir beams acquired from demolished warehouses. The house is located between two environments – old forest and gentle slope from east to west and offers transition between the two areas.

The interesting interior has what looks like polished concrete floors, those massive beams of displays and following the same theme of beams of varying lengths, the lovely ball lights have been hanged in a random looking heights and even the wooden cabinets play with varying levels of surfaces. No monotonic symmetry is this house for sure.
