$220 m apartment!
$220 M, or £136 m has been paid for an apartment (shell) in 1 Hyde Park, London. certainly a record in London, and maybe even in NY standards. This is the famous development by the thirty something Candy brothers who started their business with a $10000 (£ 6000) loan from their grandmother.
This yet-to-be finished penthouse will be 25,000 sq ft (2,300 m2) and the buyer is unknown, but is using lawyers from Ukraine… All in all Candy brothers claim they have managed to see 45 apartments in the said building for an average price of $36 M (£ 22 m)!
I wonder if we are going to see this apartment at the pages of AD or some other high-end magazine in the future. I certainly would love to see what this grand penthouse will look like. According to the Guardian the penthouse price is just for the shell and the owner will spend $100 M (£ 60 m) to decorate and finish it off. How is it even possible to spend that much in decor? After all that spending in decor the service charges, up to $160 K (£ 100 k) a year, must feel rather like petty cash to these owners…

The sale and the formal opening of the building has been reported elsewhere too, however, this source claims that only 2 other properties have been sold. There are reportedly many other contracts for sales, but the apartments are yet to be finished.
Judging from the one image released from a finished apartment, the interior might be expensive but I would not say it is that exceptional from the design point of view… too much glitter for me and the focal point is missing (unless it is view – but this is London, not New York, so the building is around 15 floors…)
