fiskars art village in finland – trip down the memory lane
I was flicking through some old images and came across this set taken in 2002 in Fiskars Village. This is the place where Fiskars company was started (the makers of those orange-handle scissors etc) and nowadays it is a beautiful destination in itself as well as a center for Finnish art and design. At the time I last visited there was a couple of exhibitions -one for young artists and another for more contemporary designers.
If you happen to visit Finland this place should definitely be on your list, it is only an hour away from Helsinki and en route if you are travelling up the west coast to Turku. This place is very different from typical Finnish villages as it was build on the banks of two rapids, most buildings date back to 19th century and almost all of them were designed by famous architects.
(NB – Sadly this is one of those old posts which suffered from the move to new site in terms of image sizes)
