chinese adventures… and shopping for home decor

Our day one in China marked the 3rd birthday of our twins, a visit to the new school to buy school uniforms and an adventure in the grocery store to get some basic supplies and a birthday cake. Then came the weekend and our day 2 we had a friends (who moved here two months ago) showing us and our driver (who did not speak even one word of English, so we have to rely on our 10-word vocabulary and our 7-year old to translate for the driver) the vital places such as the hospital, a safe market to buy fruit, veggies and some imported goods, the location of Wal-Mart ( a completely different experience from the US one I should mention as here US products are considered “luxury”).

Then we went for a lunch to a local place, which happened to be in a lovely shopping area – the Lady’s Street; surrounded by all kinds of little home decor stores of different. A place that I will visit for many a times in the future for sure. Little chic country French decor, colourful Provence style, antique remakes, and even an African art gallery. This city certainly is full of surprises (and more luxury that I could imagine, but with prices that make California look like a bargain destination!). I am certainly liking what my days one and two have brought about…
